Wish You Were Here, copper plate etching, 5 in x 7 in, 2022.

Wish You Were Here is a personal piece I created as a tribute to my brother, Brandon, who passed away in February 2022. This was my first attempt at copper plate etching, and I wanted to create something that would feel close to him. Brandon loved fishing, so I surrounded his portrait with various fish, placing him in a quiet, dreamlike underwater setting.

The expression on his face, however, reflects my own emotions while navigating the sudden loss and the weight of grief—it’s somber and introspective, capturing how I felt rather than how he was. In life, Brandon was often happy and goofy, full of lightness and humor. This portrait, in contrast, is my way of processing his absence, grounding myself in the memory of him through each etched line. This piece holds my love and loss, a memory and a reminder of the brother I miss.
